Day 1: Arrive at Shitkadi Camp
Your trek begins with a scenic 3-hour drive from Srinagar to Shitkadi, where you will set up camp for the night. The 90 km drive offers glimpses of the beautiful valleys and landscapes that make Kashmir so renowned. Upon arrival, you will have time to acclimatize to the altitude, relax, and prepare for the days ahead.
Day 2: Shitkadi Camp to Nichinai via Shekdur
On Day 2, you will trek from Shitkadi Camp to Nichinai, passing through Shekdur. The 11 km trek, which takes around 8 hours, offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. As you gain altitude, the landscape changes, and the beauty of the pristine wilderness becomes even more evident. You will experience an altitude gain of 900 m (3,000 ft) as you reach Nichinai.
Day 3: Nichinai to Vishansar Lake via Nichinai Pass
Today, you will cross the Nichinai Pass at 4,000 m (13,100 ft) and descend to Vishansar Lake, a pristine alpine lake located at 3,650 m (12,000 ft). The trek spans 12 km and takes around 7 hours to complete. The pass offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, and the lake’s crystal-clear waters provide a serene destination to rest and absorb the beauty of the landscape.
Day 4: Acclimatization + Rest Day
This is a day set aside for acclimatization. If the weather permits, you can visit the nearby Kishansar Lake, which is about 1.5 km from the campsite. If conditions are not favorable, you will use this day to rest and adjust to the high altitude. The rest day can also be spent at the Gangbal campsite, depending on the weather and trail conditions.
Day 5: Vishansar Lake to Gadsar Lake via Gadsar Pass
On Day 5, you will trek from Vishansar Lake to Gadsar Lake, crossing the Gadsar Pass at 4,200 m (13,750 ft). The 14 km trek, which takes approximately 10 hours, is one of the more challenging sections of the trek, with a steep ascent and descent. The Gadsar Lake, surrounded by towering peaks, is a beautiful and tranquil spot to rest after a long day’s trek.
Day 6: Gadsar to Satsar
On this day, you will trek from Gadsar to Satsar, another stunning alpine lake, at an altitude of 3,650 m (12,000 ft). The trek takes approximately 6 hours, covering a distance of 9 km. The journey is relatively moderate in difficulty, offering trekkers the chance to enjoy the beautiful lakes and meadows as you make your way toward the next campsite.
Day 7: Satsar to Gangbal Twin Lakes via Zaj Pass
Today’s trek takes you from Satsar to the Gangbal Twin Lakes via the Zaj Pass. The pass, situated at an altitude of 3,950 m (13,000 ft), offers magnificent views of the surrounding landscapes. The trek to the twin lakes is approximately 11 km, taking about 6 hours. The Gangbal Lakes, nestled between high peaks, provide a peaceful resting spot at the end of a challenging but rewarding day.
Day 8: Gangbal to Naranag, Drive Back to Srinagar
The final day of the trek begins with a descent from Gangbal to Naranag, a village located at 2,250 m (7,450 ft). The 15 km trek, which takes around 7 hours, will bring you through lush forests and scenic valleys. Once you reach Naranag, you will drive back to Srinagar, marking the end of your trek.
