Day 1: Arrival in Bawta
Begin your journey with a picturesque drive from Shimla to the base camp at Bawta, covering 195 km over 8-9 hours. Nestled at an altitude of 2,350 m (7,700 ft), Bawta offers a serene environment to relax, acclimatize, and gear up for the exciting trek ahead. The day concludes with an overnight stay at a cozy homestay or a scenic campsite, preparing you for the adventure to come.
Day 2: Bawta to Jakha
The trek kicks off with a 5 km ascent to Jakha, perched at 2,750 m (9,000 ft), taking approximately 4 hours. The trail winds through lush forests and terraced fields, offering glimpses of local Himalayan life. Jakha, the last inhabited village on the route, welcomes trekkers with warm hospitality and stunning views. The night is spent in tents, surrounded by the charm of nature.
Day 3: Jakha to Dandreyash Thatch
A vibrant 11 km trek awaits, spanning 8 hours as you climb to Dandreyash Thatch at 3,550 m (11,700 ft). The trail takes you through sprawling meadows, dense forests, and gurgling streams crossed by wooden bridges. This serene campsite, framed by towering mountains, provides a perfect setting for rest and relaxation after a day of exploring the Himalayan wilderness.
Day 4: Dandreyash Thatch to Upper Waterfall
Embark on a relatively shorter yet enchanting 5 km trek to Upper Waterfall, situated at 4,050 m (13,300 ft). The 3-4 hour journey leads you to the iconic Rupin Waterfall, where streams dramatically cascade down cliffs, creating a mesmerizing sight. Camping near this natural marvel immerses you in the pristine beauty of the Himalayas, making it a highlight of the trek.
Day 5: Cross Rupin Pass – Upper Waterfall to Ronti Gad
This day marks the most challenging and rewarding part of the trek. Begin with a steep climb to Rupin Pass at an altitude of 4,700 m (15,350 ft), rewarded by breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges. After soaking in the grandeur, descend to Ronti Gad at 3,750 m (12,300 ft), completing a 12 km trek over 10-11 hours. Rest at the campsite, reflecting on the day’s extraordinary journey.
Day 6: Rest/Buffer Day
This day is reserved for rest, acclimatization, or as a buffer for any weather-related delays. Spend the day at Dandreyash Thatch or another campsite, soaking in the tranquility of the surroundings. Use the time to recharge and appreciate the natural beauty before the final leg of your trek.
Day 7: Ronti Gad to Sangla & Drive to Shimla
Conclude your adventure with an 8 km descent over 4-5 hours to Sangla, passing through scenic trails that bid a final farewell to the mountains. At Sangla, vehicles will be ready to transport you back to Shimla on a 215 km drive lasting 9-10 hours. The journey ends with cherished memories of the Rupin Pass Trek and the majestic Himalayan landscapes you’ve explored.
