About BANDARPUNCH EXPEDITION

Bandarpunch (6,316m), translating to "The Monkey's Tail," is a magnificent three-peaked massif that dominates the western Garhwal skyline. Revered in Hindu mythology as the peak where Lord Hanuman extinguished his burning tail after destroying Lanka, this towering white fortress offers an exhilarating climbing challenge combined with rich cultural lore.

The expedition initiates from the lush Govind Pashu Vihar sanctuary, trekking through the picturesque alpine meadows of Taluka and Osla before diverging towards the remote Sukha Tal. The approach offers an unparalleled glimpse into traditional Himalayan village life before transitioning into pure alpine solitude.

Establishing Base Camp and Advance Base Camp brings climbers face-to-face with the immense Bandarpunch Glacier. The environment demands rigorous acclimatization and technical refresher sessions on ice craft, self-arrest techniques, and rope management as the air thins and the mountain asserts its dominance.

The climbing route above Camp 1 negotiates steep seracs, snowfields, and exposed ridgelines subject to fierce jet-stream winds. The final summit push requires traversing a steep, narrow knife-edge arête where balance, precise footwork, and unwavering concentration are paramount to safely reach the apex.

From the summit of Bandarpunch West, the horizon explodes into a breathtaking panorama encompassing the Kinnaur ranges, the Gangotri group, and the rolling valleys of Yamunotri far below. It is a monumental summit journey that tests the physical and psychological limits of every climber.
