About KALINDI KHAL EXPEDITION

Kalindi Khal is the legendary high-altitude trans-Himalayan pass connecting the holy shrines of Gangotri and Badrinath. Peaking at an astonishing 5,950 meters (19,520 feet), this expedition crosses roughly 99 kilometers of pure glacial terrain, making it one of the highest and most challenging trekkable passes in the world.

The expedition commences in the spiritual hub of Gangotri, walking alongside the roaring Bhagirathi river to Gaumukh and Tapovan. From Tapovan, the route ventures into the deep uninhabited wilderness of Nandanvan and Vasuki Tal, where turquoise glacial lakes reflect the towering peaks of Bhagirathi and Satopanth.

Navigating the Chaturangi and Sweta Glaciers tests the limits of endurance. The landscape is a monochrome world of rock, snow, and blue ice, where daily marches require crossing endless moraine fields and avoiding hidden crevasses under the watchful gaze of Shivling and Chandra Parbat.

The crossing of Kalindi Khal pass requires an alpine start in freezing midnight temperatures. Roped together for safety, climbers trudge up steep snow slopes where oxygen levels are roughly half that of sea level. Every step requires immense willpower and steady breathing until the prayer flags of the pass finally come into view.

Descending from the pass leads across the Kalindi Glacier down to the mystical valley of Ghastoli and finally to Badrinath. Completing the Kalindi Khal expedition is a spiritual and physical epic—a true grand traverse across the roof of the Garhwal Himalayas.
